Find and Live Your Passion

If you are a busy professional juggling the demands of work, home, family, and everything else life throws your way, you may often find yourself in a position where you are continuously putting everyone else’s needs before your own—whether it’s your partner, children, aging parents, pets, etc.

You get so caught taking care of everyone else that you cast aside your dreams and desires, primarily because you simply don’t have enough time, or worse, you’ve gotten to a point where you no longer know what you are  passionate about or what your dreams ever were to begin with.

“The reason for many mid-life crises: You’ve lost your purpose. You’re successful but not satisfied. Everything feels like a chore.” – Forbes

If you find yourself at a point in time where you don’t know what you’re passionate about or don’t know what your heart truly desires, follow these steps:

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What did I love to do as a child?
  • What would I do if I didn’t have a mortgage/rent or bills tying me down? What kind of life would I live?
  • If money wasn’t a factor, what would I do with my life?
  • What is something, that while I’m doing it, I get so lost that I forget about anything else?
  • What puts a smile on my face when I think about it?
  • What makes me excited and fills me with joy?

When it comes to pursing your dreams and passions, dream big.

Think about the subjects you enjoy so much that you tell other people about them – if something holds your interest to the point that you not only want to learn more about it, but you also can’t wait to teach it to others, then that is a strong indication it’s meant to be in your life.

The answers to the above questions will bring some clarity. As you look over your answers, do you see a theme? Are any of your answers similar to one another? Or do they relate to a specific subject?

As these answers bring you some clarity, do something each day to help you follow your newfound desires. Whether you love to read, exercise, laugh, or spend time with animals or family—set aside time every day to focus on these things.
