Self-Care to Stay Energized and Focused

With over 30 years of business and entrepreneurial experience, Terry Monaghan helps clients eliminate overwhelm, giving them more time and clarity to focus, and implement what it takes to produce results. Terry joined us on the From Broke to Badass Masterclass series, where she shared practical tips to help you prioritize self-care so that you can stay energized and focused. Terry encourages us to:

Gain Clarity
Get very clear on what’s important to you. Not what’s important to your spouse. Not what’s important to your mother. Not what’s important to society, but what’s important to YOU in all areas of life including your job, your family, your career, etc.

Take Action
With that understanding, make sure you devote time each day to focus on what is important to you. It could be as little as five minutes a day where you take action that gets you closer to accomplishing one of those things that’s important to you.

Prioritize Self-Care
Most importantly, focus on taking care of yourself. If you don’t make self-care a real priority if you don’t put self-care above all else you will run out of steam faster than you can even imagine. In Tony Schwartz’s book, The Way We’re Working Isn’t Working, Tony talks about energy as the capacity to do work. He explains that we have physical energy, emotional energy, mental energy, and spiritual energy.

  • Physical energy includes sleeping, resting (which is different from sleep), eating, and moving.
  • Emotional energy is our ability to maintain a positive mental attitude.
  • Mental energy is our capacity to focus.
  • Spiritual energy is knowing that what we’re doing is making a difference.

Even if you are aligned in making a difference, remaining focused, and maintaining positive mental attitude energy, if your physical body breaks down this will trump everything else, therefore, maintaining positive physical energy is key.
