Five Easy Steps to Start Living Debt Free

Living debt free is not something that comes naturally to people, especially when surrounded by constant desires, temptations, and chasing the American dream of owning a shiny new car or purchasing a new home. But imagine what you could do if you didn’t have to pay for rent/mortgage, car payments, credit cards, school loans, etc.

Imagine how much extra money you would have each month.

Money to focus on the things you love.

Starting a debt-free journey is not easy, but it is not impossible.
Here are five easy steps you can take to get started on this new adventure:

1.       Cut up your existing credit cards, close your accounts, and stop receiving pre-approved credit card notifications. You can opt-out of receiving notifications for 5 years or permanently. To opt-out visit: OptOutPrescreen.com.

2.       Put an end to junk mail, including catalogs that may tempt you to purchase things such as clothes, home goods, cars, etc. Opt out online here.

3.       Stick to a budget by understanding your monthly expenses, income, and cash flow. Click here to download a free monthly budget plan.

4.       Pay for EVERYTHING with cash (debit cards are okay), including food, clothes, entertainment, bills, vacations, etc. If you don’t have cash, you can’t afford it.

5.       Get motivated and inspired by reading two of my favorite books: The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey and I Will Teach You To Be Rich by Ramit Sethi.

These five easy steps will help get you on the right path to living a debt-free life.
